January Beginning Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom

Dates: Saturday 18th 10:30-2:30, and Saturday 25th 10:30-12:30

Beginning Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom

If you are new to weaving or wish to sharpen your skills on the rigid heddle loom this class is for you!

Day 1 we will cover basic terminology, parts of the loom, how to select an awesome yarn for your scarf (and personality) and calculate your warp and weft requirements (it’s basic math – not scary at all!). We will use the continuous warp technique to dress the loom and focus on a basic weave. You will have a week between classes to take your project home and weave away. Day 2 of class we will look at additional weaving techniques, removing your project from the loom and finishing the ends.
Yarn will be available for purchase if you don’t already have a favorite.

Stop by the shop before class to choose appropriate yarns. We will have looms available (Schacht Crickets, Ashford Sample-It, etc) or you may bring your own rigid loom with all parts, and stand if you have one.

I am a mom, a wife, a Project Manager, a Yoga Instructor, and a fiber artist. My mom taught me how to knit, crochet, sew and do needle point at a young age. I grew up on a farm in a remote area in Nova Scotia, so these were things we did for entertainment!
When I was 12, I was introduced to spinning and weaving during a summer program at a Historic Village – wow what an amazing summer that was! I was hooked and vowed that I would someday own animals that could provide natural fiber. Fast forward MANY years later and I am thrilled to say I am now a proud owner of 9 wonderful alpacas @ Angel’s Crossing Alpacas. I absolutely adore alpacas and their fiber. There’s nothing like making treasures out of alpaca fiber and knowing which alpaca it came from!
A deep dive into weaving and spinning came later in life but are now a true passion of mine. The sky is the limit – there are so many things to be made! I also have a passion to share the knowledge I have acquired over the years so others can carry on these amazing forms of art and experience the true enjoyment they can provide!
