Beginning Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom

Are you curious about weaving but don’t know where to start?  Or, do you have a rigid heddle loom but haven’t quite made friends with it?

If you answered yes to either of these questions then this class is for you!

In this two part workshop you will learn to warp and weave with confidence while creating a beautiful scarf.

Class 1: Saturday from 10:30 - 2:30

We will begin class with hands on demonstrations and weaving terminology.  And then together we will plan our first scarf project using handouts and basic math formulas.  Next you’ll learn to warp your loom and prepare for weaving.  This is where the magic happens!  We will finish class with a quick lesson on hemstitch techniques.  You will then take your loom home and cancel all your plans because all you want to do is weave.  During the week you’ll finish weaving your scarf before the second class.

Class 2:  Saturday from 10:30 - 12:30

You will remove your scarf from the loom.  Prepare for a lot of “oohing and ahhing”.  Next we will look at different finishing techniques and recommendations.  Afterwards we will study a variety of samples and learn about different weave structures.  We will revisit the project planning worksheets and terminology and answer any remaining questions.

Instructor:  Hanna Gritton

I am a fiber artist with a passion for weaving.  I work and live in the beautiful Front Range of Colorado and have had the opportunity to study and take workshops from renowned artists.  Last year I won the Colorado State Tartan Challenge and had the joy of participating in the Rocky Mountain Weavers Guild annual sale.  This year I joined the South Suburban (SoSu) Artist Collective and have a studio located in the Streets of Southglenn Art District.

I am very excited to return to Blazing Star Ranch where my weaving adventure began.  I fell “heddle over heals” in love with rigid heddle weaving.  Since then I’ve taken up other weaving looms but I will always have a special place in my heart for the rigid heddle.

Creating cloth on a loom is a magical and fun art and I cannot wait to share it with you!

Class cancellations must be made 10 days in advance in order to get a 50% refund.  Cancellations after that will get no refund.  Our instructors require a minimum number of students to teach a class and they schedule their time accordingly.  We keep class sizes small so that students get personalized attention.  Thank you for your understanding.
